Details
    Level of authority:
    National
    Italy
    Formal Mandate:

On September 1, 2011, the EU LIFE+ program approved the project DIAPASON, "Desert-dust impact on air quality through model-predictions and advanced sensors observations", under the Grant Agreement number LIFE10 ENV/IT/000391.
The DIAPASON proposal was set up to significantly support EU Member States at taking robust measurements of Saharan advections to respond to the air quality (AQ) Directive 2008/50/EC.
The proposed methodology will be tailored to national and regional environmental agencies needs, and will be disseminated at European level through guidelines and recommendations shared with the project stakeholders.
An important project mandate is therefore to network with International environmental initiatives including INSPIRE: in this respect, the DIAPASON project can be proposed as a pilot project to feed or test INSPIRE implementing rules. The information generated by DIAPASON could improve/integrate current measurements under the implementation of the directive INSPIRE by Member States at national level.

    Main Activities:
The DIAPASON project will design a new INSPIRE-compliant technology (i.e., a new INSPIRE compliant equipment ready to use under the AQ Directive 2008/50/EC), and disseminate INSPIRE compliant best practice guidelines and recommendations, which could improve current measurements in relation to EC environmental objectives.
