    <p>The Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE) is one of the main institutes responsible for Inspire implementation.</p> <p>SYKE is Finland’s national centre for environmental research and development. SYKE produces data on the state of the environment in Finland, including significant environmental trends and the factors behind them. SYKE compiles, processes and publishes a wide range of environmental data, while meeting Finland’s reporting obligations related to EU environmental legislation and other international agreements.<br /> SYKE is functioning under the Ministry of Environment (ME) and to a lesser degree under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF). SYKE was established in 1995 and has some 600 employees, which are situated in the main office in Helsinki. The Environmental Administration consists of the ME, SYKE and 13 regional environment centers ( some 2500 employee).</p>
    Main Activities: 
    Syke is responsible of several Inspire data layers. SYKE has its own environmental SDI (ESDI) which was built to serve the whole environmental administration in the country. This ESDI has been fully operational from 1995. Own data production by SYKE includes several datasets listed in the annexes of Inspire like Annex 1: Groundwater bodies, Natura2000 sites, Other protected areas, River network (including lakes), River basins Annex 2: Land cover, Bathymetry Annex 3: Land use, Environmental monitoring facilities, Area management/restriction/regulation zones and reporting units, Natural risk zones, Sea regions, Bio-geographical regions, Habitats and biotopes, Species distribution
