    Formal Mandate: 
    <p>· Pursue the state policy in the sphere of land management and administration, land reform, real property cadasrtre, accounting, geodesy, development of cartographic and geo-referential databases and information systems needed for agricultural development.<br /> · Within the competence, prepare state programmes for land reform implementation, development and reneval of national geodetic background, cartography, geo-referntional databases abd other programmes, co-ordinate and control their implementation<br /> · Develop the strategy for formation of the real property cadastre and information systems needed for agricultural development<br /> · Submit proposals to the Republic of Lithuania Government on state programmes, international projects, financing for land reform, national land management, real property cadastre, geographical information systems, cartography, geodesy activities from the national budget of Lithuania<br /> · Exercise control over the land reform to be it realised in conformity with the Republic of Lithuania legislation<br /> · Harmonise geographical information systems in the Lithuanian territory with other national cadastres and registers, also EU technical requirements and standards<br /> · Ensure security of cartographic digital and analogue information, databases storing information about state importance and risk objects, or their characteristics, also any other informaiton included into the list of state secrets<br /> · Within the competence, coordinate the unification of geo-referential databases and their harmonisation with other information systems<br /> · Exercise the state control over national geodetic, topographic and cartographic activities, formation and maintenance of national geo-referential databases, and quality control</p>
    Main Activities: 
    The National Land Service develops and pursues the state policy in the sphere of restoration and ownership rights to land, forests and water bodies, land reform, land management and real property cadastre; implements the strategy for development of the national geodetic background, cartography and geo-referential databases; exercises methodological guidance on activities in land management and administration, land reform, land use planning, national mapping, management of the national geodetic background, development and updating of geo-referential databases, carrying cadastral surveying of real property objects, collection and specification of cadastral data, accounting, marking the boundaries of real property objects on the map, and controls these activities
    Comments: 
    In addition, NLS plays a leading role developing National Spatial Data Infrastructure in Lithuania.
