    <p>International Office for Water (IOW) manages the SANDRE. SANDRE is the acronym for the French Data Reference Centre for Water in charge of implementing a shared language, setting up definitions, dictionaries, data conceptual models, including reference lists for water data exchange in France. Working within the French Information System for Water (SIE), its top priorities are to make compatible and homogeneous data definitions to smooth and streamline exchanges between producers, users and databanks at all administrative and hydrographic levels.</p>
    Main Activities: 
    IOW is at the core of the French data and information system for water, encompassing geographical and more generally geolocalized information. IOW continuously insures the compatibility of the French information system with European and International requirements to allow adequate reporting. In particular, IOW insures the following missions: - establish expert groups to produce this shared information system and produce and disseminate the associated documents (definitions, dictionaries, data conceptual models, reference lists and associated tools) - disseminate reliable information adapted to the needs of its various partners in the field of water (GIS layers, databases, supporting documentation), - to be involved in programs dealing with data management and data analysis to produce synthesis on water quality, pollution control, water resources, environmental water protection, initiated, in particular, by the French Institute of Environment (IFEN) and the European Environmental Agency (EEA).

    Previous Experience relevant for INSPIRE development: 
    IOW is at the core of water data and metadata definition and exchange in France under supervision of the French Ministry of Environment (MEDAD) and the national Water Agency (ONEMA). For instance, under WISE, IOW supports the French authorities to collect and organise data from Water Agencies for the national reporting requirements.
