Emilia-Romagna Region has already gained a lot of experience in the field of interoperability and accessibility of territorial information. Emilia-Romagna is involved in the development of the Italian Spatial Data Infrastructure that allows the integration of different kind of data from a wide range of sources. Region Emilia-Romagna participated actively in the INSPIRE initiative and has been acknowledged as a best practice at the national level as they “…anticipated the setting up of services that will be required by the INSPIRE legislation.” (Lesson learnt from Italian NSDI – JRC, 2004 ) In fact the Region converted in digital form the catalogue of the data developed since several years and it is now migrating to become ISO19100 compliant. Within the IntesaGIS framework, Emilia-Romagna Region has been also very active in the definition national technical specifications to make possible both the interoperability between databases related to the surroundings Regions and also the internal co-ordination with other Local and national Authorities. We partecipated even to a TECHNICAL WORKSHOP ON REGIONAL SDI INITIATIVES (connecting existing SDI experience) at JRC, Ispra in January 8th - 10th, 2003At the moment Emilia-Romagna Region is deeply involved in the definition of ISO19115 Metadata profile at regional level: thus, we look after CEN-TC287 process regarding the development of European Core.
