    <p>The Slovak Environmental Agency (hereinafter SEA) has been established by the decision of the Minister of the Environment of the Slovak Republic (hereinafter Minister) from 17 May 1993, No. 8/1993, issued pursuant to § 28 of the Law No. 567/1992 Coll. on Budgetary Rules of the Slovak Republic, as amended, and § 2 letter g) of the Law No. 595/1990 Coll. On the State Environmental Administration. By the decision of the Minister from<br /> 19 December 2000 No. 2118/2000-min. the full wording of the founder?s deed of SEA was issued because of the change of the form of the SEA´s financial management.</p>
    Main Activities: 
    SEA is a professional authority operating on the territory of the whole Slovakia, the activity of which is focused on the environmental protection, development of environmental policy on the principles of sustainable development. SEA's operation is divided into following spheres of activity: • general and cross-sectional activities in all professional fields • spatial development, physical planning, landscape formation, settlements restoration and rural development • waste management • informatics and monitoring • documentation and scientific-technical information • environmental impact assessment • environmental risk assessment and management and chemical safety • environment assessment and environmental regionalisation • environmental economy • environmental education, training and promotion • environmental evaluation and labelling of products • environmental management systems • cultural landscape and natural heritage protection • revitalization of the load areas • sustainable development In the above-mentioned spheres SEA • prepares for Ministry of environment SR (hereinafter MoE) professional bases for strategies, concepts, programmes and legal regulations • carries out co-ordination activity • prepares and organises various events, • develops plans and evaluates their fulfilment, • programs, implements and evaluates environmental projects, • works out or orders standpoints, expert opinions, information and documents, • provides professional supervision over the enforcement of environmental legal regulations • takes care of selected protected landscape areas and environmental • installations, • provides for the fulfillment of obligations ensuing for the Slovak Republic (SR) from international environmental legislation and co-operation, • provides expert assistance to MoE SR in the Slovak environmental legislation harmonization with the regulations and procedures of the European Union • co-operates with relevant professional institutions in the Slovak Republic and abroad. In the field of environmental monitoring and informatics SEA performs following tasks: • co-ordinates individual partial monitoring systems from the point of view of the Information System of Monitoring development and ensures its building, • builds up the Information System of SEA as the subsystem of the Global Environmental Information and Monitoring System of the SR, • develops methodologies for individual layers creation of the geographic information system within the framework of the SEA?s information system, • keeps the register of basic residential areas, • builds up the Territorial Information System in co-operation with other professional organizations in the SR, • interconnects information about the territory and environment within SEA and in relation to the Global Environmental Information and Monitoring System of the SR, • provides professional supervision and co-ordination of the Global Environmental Monitoring and Information System of the SR in national as well as international context, • ensures, in co-operation with the state administration bodies and professional organizations, the building and operation of the Information System of Environmental Departments, • Ensures the building and operation of the ZPNet computer network.
    Comments: 
    Slovak environmental agency (SEA) covers activities within the environmental sector in Slovak republic. These activities are with strong connection to the aims and orientation of INSPIRE initiative. SEA has realized the importance of this kind of initiative as a key solution for wide spatial data infrastructure establishment. There is an strong effort to implement all the INSPIRE recommendation and willingness to provide own knowledge to the process of iINSPIRE implementation rules development, transposition and implementation. This long term aim is supported by INSPIRE expert group SEAs’ representation. There are two levels of activities with the linkage to INSPIRE. First one toward environmental sector of Slovak republic as an coordinator for establishment on environmental SDI within the all organizations under the by the Ministry of the Environment of the Slovak Republic. The second one is towards national intersectoral direction as a member of team of organizations working on project focused on establishing of NSDI in Slovakia, providing knowledge, metadata, spatial data, services, creating the network supporting interoperability. SEA is also currently participating on effort to establish cooperation with the neighbors’ countries as a contribution to establishment strong interconnection with NSDIs. There are projects oriented on user requirement for creating of rules, procedures, internal legislative documents covering organizational issues in mutual cooperation with other partners as within the environmental sector as behind this area. Standardization of procedure for creating data, metadata, services and support of OGC specifications are also very important tasks solved by SEA. SEA has realized the importance of this initiative as a key solution for effective and reasonable way how to establish this kind of spatially oriented infrastructure with benefits for all.
