Mission and Objectives:
The main objective is the promotion of using geographic information and enhancing interdisciplinary applications of geographic information by creating public awareness, exchange of information about availability of data and stimulationg professional education and development. The association represents the interests of the GI society in Austria towards international umbrella organizations and institutions on European level.

Mandate:
AGEO is a non-profit umbrella organisation of public and private institutions and interest groups and university institutes. No individual members.
Activities:
AGEO actively contributes to the development of an Austrian Spatial Data Infrastructure. An investigation into the feasibility of a nationwide web-portal including metadata services for GI was initiated by AGEO in coopertation with the Federal Ministry of Economics and Labour. Strong links with other European players have been established. An annual seminar on burning issues of GI is an established event.
Membership:
AGEO members are public institutions, private companies, universities, utility companies and other associations with a regional balance across Austria.
