Mission and Objectives: 
The Baltic Sea Hydrographic Commission is a regional organisation, independent but within the framework of the Interantional Hydrographic Organization. Member nations are Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania(observer), Poland, Russia and Sweden. The main mission is promote safe transports at sea by coordinating and cooperating regarding production of nautical charts and hydrographic surveying

Umbrella organization founded 1983 within the framework of the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO), www.iho.int
Activities: 
To work with the Baltic Sea regional aspects of the IHO objectives. The commission meets yearly and it has a number of working groups for various tasks within the commission objectives. The coordination of the activities of national hydrographic offices The greatest possible uniformity in nautical charts and documents The adoption of reliable and efficient methods of carrying out and exploiting hydrographic surveys The development of the sciences in the field of hydrography and the techniques employed in descriptive oceanography
Membership: 
All national hydrographic offices (HOs)within the region. Member nations are Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania(observer), Poland, Russia and Sweden. Other nations may send observers to commission meetings. The central office of IHO normally has one of its directors
