Mission and Objectives: 
The mission of the Institute for Health and Consumer Protection is to protect the interests and health of the consumer in the framework of EU legislation on chemicals, food, and consumer products by providing scientific and technical support including risk-benefit assessment and analysis of traceability.

Mandate: 
The Chemical Assessment and Testing Unit as a part of the JRC is contributing to the achievement of the objectives as described in the annual work programm of the institute.
Activities: 
The CAT Unit is actively engaged in both policy support and fundamental reseaarch through its two Policy Support Actions (Health and Environment, Consumer Products and Nutrition) as well as through its operational action (Chemical Assessment and Testing). These actions cover a wide range of issues, namely Human exposure to chemicals and physical stressors, pollution sources and related chemistry, risk analysis, modeling of related phenomena etc. It thus fits perfectly within the context of Human Health and Safety theme of INSPIRE taking also into account numerous interventions that have taken place within the last years in order to gather environmental and exposure data.
Membership: 
Chemical Assessment and Testing Unit belongs to the JRC and thus it has not the status to have memberships from other institutes/organizations.
