Mission and Objectives: 
To provide and analyse information concerning future energies. Particular interests are in non-renewable (fossil- and nuclear-derived energies) and renewable energies, e.g. biofuels, biogas, algal fuels. In order to make direct comparisons between different energy sources and to harmonize the energy content to provide an overall picture of primary energy resources, individual allocations are accounted for in Joules to provide an overall "energy map". Thus, for example, the resource of anthracitic coal under a region may be accounted in terms of the energy content of the fuel (say 29 GJ/tonne) if the seam thickness is known. Lower grades of coal may be accounted for similarly. Renewable energy resources need to be accounted for on the basis of a yield/unit area/unit time, e.g. J/hectare/year for biomass.

FLEA is a commercial profit-making organization directed by Professor Christopher Rhodes. Its main work is to evaluate energy based information and to undertake consulting activities related to this and to aspects of environmental decontamination and pollution management.
