Mission and Objectives:
“International Friends of Nature” (IFN) is striving to establish a sustainable treatment of nature, environmentally friendly and socially acceptable tourism, sustainable regional development and active environmental education, predominantly in Europe. Due to the geographically broad and transnational approach and working methods spatial reference is playing a major part in smaller and larger scale. Hence reliable decision support and profound planning can only be provided on the basis of topographic and thematic data supported by aerial and satellite imagery and exact positioning on-site.The goal of the working group is to set up and operate a Geoportal for the IFN.“IFN Geoportal” is meant to be part of the homepage of IFN, completing established services like the Internet database and nfhouse.org, to provide easy access to distributed data sources in the context of a given task.

Activities:
The project’s goal is to set up and operate „IFN Geoportal“ as part of the Internet presence of IFN. Main Activities:Conception including requirement analysis.Technical realisation including software development and bugfixing and benchmarking. Introduction of the Geoportal and evaluation including participation and support of the IFN network ‘Landscapes of the Year’. The network is a platform for all previous and upcoming landscapes for know-how exchange, common marketing strategies and a common policy for sustainable regional development vis-à-vis the European Commission.
