Mission and Objectives: 
The Dutch provinces make policy on the environment, spatial planning, economics, traffic and transport and they are responsible for various coordinating and planning tasks and establish regulations and provincial bye-laws. Geographic information plays an important role in this field where interaction with our environment is an important issue.

Activities: 
The use of geographic information by making (regional) plans, implementing these plans and monitor the results. GIS are used to make integral area specific policies. The exchange of information with our environment is very important for this process. On regional and local level the provinces are playing a role in the development of local, regional GDI’s in cooperation with the municipalities. For the provinces that are located near the border cross boundary GDI’s are important.
Membership: 
The 12 Dutch Provinces are working together in the Inter Provincial Organisation IOG-GEO.
