Mission and Objectives: 
Respond Mission Statement: Respond will increase the efficiency and effectiveness of European and international humanitarian community through the appropriate and reliable application of geographic information. Respond aims to work within: - All parts of the crisis cycle where geographic information (GI) is useful - Slow (e.g. Famine) onset crises and Fast (e.g. Earthquake) crises - Where GI is useful in the better deployment of development aid - Pure mapping as well as satellite derived information - Support services - training & In field support - Support to forecasting & Alert services Respond will seek to exploit economies of scale and improved information by supplying products to different types of users based on the same data components to provide a Reliable and Guaranteed service

Respond is an alliance of European and International organisations working with the humanitarian community to improve access to maps, satellite imagery and geographic information. GSE Respond is one of the ESA funded GMES Service Elements. At present the partners are sub-contracted to the Prime (Infoterra Ltd).
Activities: 
Respond aims to provide Humanitarian organisations with geographic information. There are 8 Respond services: 1. Basic Mapping 2. Crisis and Damage Mapping 3. Situation Mapping 4. Refugee/IDP Support Mapping 5. Thematic Mapping 6. Alert Services 7. Communication and Reporting Resources 8. In-field Mapping (which also supports the other services) These services are provided to the users via 4 delivery methods: 1. Proactive mapping 2. Reactive mapping 3. On-line mapping 4. Alerting services

Comments: 
The RESPOND consortium is a strong team with a proven reputation in delivery of products for humanitarian aid. It is organised by Infoterra UK Ltd - The "Prime Contractor" Respond has provided mapping services following a variety of Humanitarian events including, the Kashmir Earthquake of October 2005, the Asian Tsunami of December 2004, Flooding in China and Ethiopia, ongoing complex crisis in Darfur.
