Choosing the Right INSPIRE Download Service Technologies

Ilkka Rinne

(Submission #342)

The Technical Guidance for INSPIRE Download Services contains several technologies for implementing INSPIRE Download Services as defined in the Implementing Rules for Download and Transformation Services (Commission regulation 1088/2010). The INSPIRE profiles for OGC Web Feature Service (WFS) and Atom feeds combined with OpenSearch API have been included in the Technical Guidance since the first official release. Through the work of MIG subgroups MIWP-7a and MIWP-7b the OGC Web Coverage Service (WCS) and the OGC Sensor Observation Service (SOS) standards are in the process of being adopted as new official options for providing coverage and measurement time series data sets.

These technologies can be used as alternative or complimentary means for implementing INSPIRE compliant Download Services depending of the user needs and provided data sets. The goal of the workshop is discuss and collect both successes and difficulties in implementing Download Services for different INSPIRE data sets and themes as well experiences with various software tools building these services.

The workshop will consist of several presentations both by the INSPIRE experts involved in creating the Technical Guidance documents and by the data providers with experience in implementing these services. The participants also have possibility to give feedback and learn during the group discussions and Q&A sessions included.
