Abstract

INSPIRE Download Service is usually implemented using three standards: OGC Web Feature Service (WFS), IETF Atom and OGC Sensor Observation Service (SOS). Probably many organizations have to decide which one to choose. The presentation shows the way in which Institute of Meteorology and Water Management strives to implement INSPIRE Download Service for weather stations. The steps include: evolutionary process of building the infrastructure, analyzing available standards for the INSPIRE Implementation, choosing the standard best suited for the domain and the organization, choosing the implementation of the standard, mapping the internal data structures to the INSPIRE data structures, choosing the methods to enter data to the publication database, the implementation, publication and monitoring, achieving the goal - easy access to weather stations data. Presentation also shows alternative approaches to provide convenient access to a meteorological data. This analysis provides also insight into evolution of technologies: classic WMO data exchange, www, INSPIRE and OGC Standards, Weather Information System, Internet of Things. And finally, presentation looks into the future to overview new standard for sensor data exchange: OGC SensorThings API and new compression mechanism for XML.
