“Agile approach for INSPIRE implementation in the Copernicus Climate Change Service”

Abstract

The Climate Data Store (CDS) is the core infrastructure supporting the implementation of the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S). CDS provides unified access to distributed and heterogeneous climate data sources allowing to perform operations and develop custom-made applications on top of provided data. Data Interoperability becomes a big challenge as data providers but indeed a great added value to trigger CDS data accessibility and usability. In order to build a successful and useful platform, user engagement is considered a key issue. For this goal the principles of ‘Agile’ software development were adopted. The provision of INSPIRE compliant data services is in the context of the CDS addressed as part of this Agile methodology, following a step wise implementation approach as components of the infrastructure are delivered and new data sources are populated. It is expected that data and services will continuously increase in content and complexity as the system evolves driving by user needs and requirements.
