In the region of Western Balkan the institutions that are in charge of implementation of the spatial data infrastructure are making significant efforts in implementing the INSPIRE directive. Due to similarities and the fact that the establishment of Spatial Data Infrastructure in the region is generally under the responsibility of the National Mapping and Cadastral Agencies, the implementation of the INSPIRE directive are approached in a common way for the region, through the implementation of regional projects. One of these is the IMPULS project that is financed by Sida, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency. The project is managed by Lantmäteriet, the Swedish Mapping and Land Registration Authority together with the Croatian counterpart State Geodetic Administration as junior partner. Expected result is sustainable impact on the implementation of the INSPIRE directive that will enable the beneficiaries to meet the EU-requirements, as well as developing interoperability and e-government in each country. This presentation will show the achievements so far with regards to the implementation of national SDI’s in a regional context. It will, in particular, show how a common use case has been used as a driver for the implementation, and how difficulties due to different working situation by the participating organisations have been met by the project.
