The UBA Open Data Download Portal for Air Quality Data

As Germany’s main environmental protection agency (UBA), the UBA’s main task is to ensure that fellow citizens have a healthy environment with clean air and water, free of pollutants to the greatest extent possible. The “UBA Open Data Download Portal for Air Quality Data” is a web-based application to provide the public with nation-wide and daily-updated Air Quality Data like CO2 or NOX in an easily accessible and understandable manner. This presentation highlights the underlying system architecture and components which among others comprises out of an OGC Sensor Observation Service. These components are additionally established parts of the UBA’s spatial data infrastructure. Attendees will gain insights into the public application for downloading AIR Quality Data, it’s conceptualization were methods from a user-centered design approach were used, and how the Air Quality Data is stored with the OGC SOS. Furthermore, the different download options are discussed that use a FME Workspace which delivers Air Quality Data to the public in various data formats and shapes controlled by a web-based application framework. With this setup, the UBA is now capable of delivering the Air Quality Data to the public in a modern application while the storage and dissemination via an OGC SOS enables the UBA to report the data to the EEA in a conformant way.
