GeoNetwork and the new Metadata Guidelines

Paul van Genuchten and Jose Garcia

(Submission #225)

Abstract

Last year the new INSPIRE metadata guidelines have been published. This year various projects started to implement the recommendations from the guidelines in software. We worked with various organisations to discuss and implement their requirements in the GeoNetwork opensource project. GeoNetwork is a catalogue product widely used for INSPIRE discovery. In this presentation we'll be presenting some of the conclusions and open discussions related to these developments. The new guidelines bring for example a new metadata element gmx:Anchor, combined with the recommendation to allow only links to dedicated codelists. Another aspect is the linkage between datasets and services, which is now based on URI links. In general we're happy about the level of detail and implementation examples of the guidelines. Although not all the guidelines are as easy to implement.
