(Submission #235)
The Belgian federal geo-platform is the outcome of a collaborative approach between federal public services being in charge to deliver their datasets in conformity with INSPIRE in order to better find, access and use them. 4 of them have now delivered INSPIRE datasets and made them available through view and download services: the National geographic institute, the General Administration of Patrimonial Documentation ( formal Cadastral Agency), the Royal Belgian Institute for Natural Sciences and the General-Directorate for Statistics. The datasets are all covering Annex I beside the statistical units. Within a guidance framework of the National Geographical Institute, each partner has decided on their own process and options. The presentation will describe and argue the processes and options taken by each of them for transforming their datasets, for implementing the related services and the lessons learnt. The presentation will then highlight similarities and discrepancies and therefore the need for further harmonisation efforts in matter of unique identifiers, coordinate reference systems and cross-border data. It will raise the impact of a consistent and coherent validation processes commonly agreed to and followed by all the data providers so as to increase the data interoperability and quality.
