(Submission #353)
What is blockchain and why is this interesting and useful for governments and geo-data? In this introduction we briefly cover the basics of blockchain, a decentralised distributed ledger technology that allows the creation, validation and encrypted transaction of information and records it in an incorruptible way. We will shortly introduce the different facets of this technology and highlight those that motivated the Flemish government to invest in this new technology. With promises of more transparancy, more autonomy and more decentralisation it is technology currently surrounded by a lot of hype: we will cut through the mist and clearly enumerate the different pro's and con's as an introduction to the different applications currently running within the different administrations.
