The Agency for Nature and Forestry has started a redesign of her nature management plan process with the aim to come to a fully transparent nature and forest management in Flanders. It was decided to integrate the blockchain technology within a proof of concept project. The project identified four distinct elements that needed testing: active geographical elements, automated management, traceable history and single source of truth in a management ecosystem. Furthermore these needed incorpration into a streamlined user interface enhancing the user experience for both citizens and nature managers.
The presentation will highlight the results of the advanced proof of concept an pilot project. Especially the aspects giving more control to owners, managers and workers of nature land:
Registration of the geographic elements and their interactions (between elements but also between elements and individuals, and later between the elements and the IOT) needed to be captured in an intial stage.
The next step encompassed the automation of the management aspects related to registration on the authentic sources and the automation of subsidies (linked to predefined rules).
All these interactions need to be traceable to chart the evolution of nature, the interactions of the different actors and the subsidy streams.
The project rounded of all these steps by incorporating them in one single source of truth.
