The INSPIRE directive, which includes different phases of implementation in a process to be completed in 2019, entered into force on May 15, 2007. The INSPIRE directive aims to establish the European Parliament spatial data infrastructure.
A road map was determined in 2007 for the implementation of the INSPIRE Directive by the Member States. It is intended that standardized roadmap and production of geographical data produced in Europe with the specified roadmap, creation of geographic database metadata, discoverable via these metadata, and access to these data through geographic data services.
Together with technological developments in our country Geographical information is widely used by public institutions, local governments, private sector, universities, non-governmental organizations and citizens; the need for the development of new policies and strategies at the national level in terms of the quality of produced data, production methodologies, costs, methods of storage and effective use.
Geographical information strategy and action plannig studies have been started to gather all public institutions and organizations in the national and local level and the private sector under a common geographical information infrastructure. In 2011, "Geographical Information Strategy and Action Plan" project was initiated by Geographical Information Systems established within the Ministry of Environment and Urbanisation.
Within the scope of this project, it is aimed to create a road map of what strategies and actions the geographical information will be produced in our country in the future. 2023 Turkey considering the target, in 2028 the National Geographic Information defining the vision and 2018-2023 National Geographic Information Strategy and Action Plan developed that will occur in this work decisions, participatory, transparent, clear, concrete, realistic, practical and holistic but segmented approach to precisely It will be created. This work, which will define the vision, top policies and actions related to geographical information in our country, will be a new step to be taken on the way to the future of geographical information.
