INSPIRE applications and software components Expertise:
Spatial networked applications and services embedding spatial components for mobile users. Includes both mobile applications and server components with spatial enablers. Previous projects in FP6 and FP7 frameworks related to this area for security and safety critical applications (indoor/outdoor) as well as building management services (principally indoor) have been used incorporating standardised data formats (Oracle Spatial, ArcGIS, ESRI shape files, Map Guide, MapInfo etc.) Recently work proceeds towards 3D contour mapping of urban and rural areas from low-orbit observations and aerial fly-byes.
Thematic knowledge related to one or more INSPIRE themes Expertise:
I have over 15 years of experience in geo-location and geographical info systems, both from technological and service/application points of view. I have been developing hybrid satellite positioning receivers since 2002, exploring ultra-low power techniques and software defined architectures for improving adaptivity and performance of the receivers especially in weak signal situations and for improving overall battery autonomy, e.g. for sensors and devices deployed in the environments. Various constellations (GPS, Glonas, Galileo etc.) and augmentation technologies (A-GPS, D-GPS and others) have been involved in this development. Since 2006 I have been deeply involved in development of Location Based Services combining positioning technologies with GIS mapping for both indoor and outdoor scenarios. I have been involved in a number of both industrial and research projects in FP6/FP7, COST Actions and other programs.
Communication Expertise:
Hardware and software development of the transceivers for mobile communications, DAB/DVB software receivers, IC design of power-optimised and computationally efficient IF and baseband processors, GPS receiver software receivers. On the IT side, cyber security in networking, secure protocols, intrusion detection and prevention, encryption algorithms. New communications paradigm have been pursued recently, including Bluetooth Smart enabled IoT devices and Fifth Generation (5G) communications systems. Cloud computing and software defined networking architectures are part of the applied R&D domains for possible exploitation for company's future 5G back-hauls.
