Thematic knowledge related to one or more INSPIRE themes Expertise:
Hande Demirel's expertise is on spatial data acquisition, modelling and analysis from both the theoretical and empirical viewpoint. She has been involved into several National/European research projects on land cover/use, transport, environmental and climate impacts, where these projects were inter-disciplinary. She is the author of over national and international articles, and she is frequent reviewer to International Journals
Cross-cutting technical issues and INSPIRE architecture Expertise:
She has expertise on supporting cohesion Policy, regional and urban development for sustainable transport and climate change adaptation, designing training programs/seminars/conferences/workshops. She was several times responsible for preparing and implementing the strategic plans for ministries, local authorities and other policy makers.
Interoperability Expertise:
Hande Demirel has a Ph.D. in Geoinformatics from the Technical University Berlin-TUB (Germany), where her thesis was on spatial data modelling. She is currently Associate Professor at the Istanbul Technical University, Department of Geomatics Engineering (since 2008). She was acting as scientific researcher at the Institute for Prospective Technological Studies (IPTS) of the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (EC-JRC) during the period of 2011-2014, with particular reference to the study transport impact assessment, spatial analyses and climate change impacts on various sectors. She has led work on impacts of climate change and adaptation for both Turkey and as well as the European Commission. She acted as a working group member of International Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) on Spatial Data quality between 2004-2008.
