HabitatsAndBiotopesDistribution XSD
Hi, Is anyone aware of the status of the HabitatsAndBiotopesDistribution schema currently located here: https://inspire.ec.europa.eu/draft-schemas/hbd/? Does anyone know when there will be an official release? I would like to complete my transformation, however the draft schema has a wrong reference to an imported schema. Would it be possible to have this fixed by adding the missing / between 3.3 and BaseTypes.xsd? Kind regards, Kate

Hi Kate,
good point, seems that while the basic Habitat Types made it to the final version, the Habitat Distribution never got past draft stage. Habitat Distribution is not marked as deprecated within the data models, but it also isn't included in the IRs, so formally not required.
To my reading, this means that you need only provide such data as required under the basic HB schema at https://inspire.ec.europa.eu/schemas/hb/4.0/HabitatsAndBiotopes.xsd

Hi Kate,
the maintenance of draft schemas is not foreseen (al least for the moment being). Moreover, those draft schemas do not reflect the changes introduced in the amendment of the Implementing Rules (Commission Regulation (EU) No 1253/2013) and the corresponding Data Specification Technical Guidelines that led to the creation of v4.0 of the official / endorsed schemas.
on this topic, you might find it useful to read this page from the INSPIRE KNOWLEDGE BASE
Hope this helps,

Hi Kathi and Stefania,
EU member states have a reporting obligation under article 17 of the Habitats Directive to report species and habitats distribution, you can read about it here: https://rod.eionet.europa.eu/obligations/269
This is also stated in the Habitats and Biotopes data specification (section 5.4).
I am just curious why it didn't make it out of the draft stage.
I have habitat distribution data (gridded) which cannot be mapped to the HabitatsAndBiotopes schema, it's great data- would just like to include it as an INSPIRE dataset!
Kind regards,
Kate
Gridded data - cool! Any chance you'd prefer to provide this as a coverage model? There's a deprecated one I've been itching to revive!
:)
For more details on this topic (use of coverage model for HB gridded data), have a look at this interesting INSPIRE Community Forum post https://inspire.ec.europa.eu/forum/discussion/view/207594/habitatsandbiotopes-in-wcs?
